Snow and Ice Risk Assessment

Commercial Snow Plowing Contracts

Seasonal Contract

One of the more common ones is a seasonal contract. Also known as a lump sum contract or a fixed fee contract, this is ideal for clients that have target budgets and wish to operate without exceeding budget for the season and simplified billing.

These agreements are usually signed over multiple years to balance out when the amount of snow that falls is light in some years and then heavier in others to compensate for the lack of accumulation. The seasonal contract is convenient for those who don’t want to constantly be looking for a snow removal professional to handle their site(s) every year.

T&M Contract

There’s also the T&M contract, which stands for time & materials. This type of contract means what you probably think: you’re only going to pay for the services that get done at your property in a given year. It’s hard to predict just how much snow will fall in a given year, so this agreement works for those who want to pay piecemeal.

You can choose to pay per push, which is beneficial in our area during a large snowstorm since it’s designed for a constant amount of snow and you would be charged for each visit to your property. Per event agreements are also available that allow you to be charged one flat rate for each snowstorm that occurs no matter how many visits are needed.

Per Inch Contract

A per inch contract allows for clients to pay as it snows throughout the winter depending on the number of inches of accumulation there is and the spreading of necessary deicing materials to prevent a slip-and-fall accident. With this agreement, you’ll only pay for the services done and the equipment that was used.

If you have a specific budget in mind, then this contract would not be ideal because the price you’ll pay will go up or down depending on the amount of snowfall that occurs in a given year. Inches are determined by local weather experts, who can also provide you with updated weather reports via a live call center that you have access to 24/7.

Rate Work Contracts

Rate work contracts are billed on a per hour rate for equipment & man labor and per ton for ice control. This time-based agreement is similar to the T&M contracts we spoke about above, except it’s an hourly rate that you’ll be paying rather than a single flat fee.

If your site is smaller and there aren’t a lot of complications to removing the snow and ice, then this type of contract is a good solution to allow you to pay for just the work that needs to be done.
